Fear is a crazy emotion. On one hand it can save your life. When your mind announces that something isn't right it puts your senses on alert and you are able to act accordingly.

On the other hand it can cause one to desire to take another's life. This could be literal or the killing of one's character, integrity--their good name. In Proverbs 22 it tells us that a good name is better than riches. This direct attack on someone's livelihood stems from their fear of the greatness that lies within the other person.

Let me give you 3 examples:

Last week I found myself driving to a familiar location on an unfamiliar route. Now mind you, there was nothing wrong with my regular route I was just in a different starting position. I became a bit antsy because I had no clue what the traffic would look like or what turns the highway would take due to recent construction. I found myself thinking how much I would have rather gone on my normal route. Then God whispered in my ear: 

It’s time for a new highway. It’s time for a new way of walking in your ministry, walking in your calling, walking in your purpose. It’s time for new heights and new depths. It’s time for a brand-new way of walking in me. 

And I believe he is saying that to a number of you!

Sometimes we get so comfortable in things that feel safe that we are unwilling to try new routes. This could be an unhealthy relationship, trying a new food, allowing for that new friendship or partnership, going back to school…whatever! Simple or complex. God is saying it’s time to leave your comfort zone and be okay with the reroute. 

Rerouting doesn’t necessarily mean that you have done anything wrong and it doesn’t mean you were doing 

Have you seen the way people respond in the midst of crisis?

Picture an extremely crowded venue during a crisis situation: people running in 50 million directions, screaming, crying, falling, and clawing over each other. You can't pay attention to everything around you because your mind won't let you. You're in flight/panic mode and you can't comprehend any of the directions given to you, only what your anxious thoughts are telling you. When you finally get to someone who can help, you stutter, fumble over your words, and might even share seeing or hearing things that never actually happened. Not because you're a liar but sometimes in a heightened state of fear we recall things differently.

And this ladies (and gentlemen) is how most of us come to God in crisis. A hot confused mess. We offer up incomplete and inaccurate accounts of what’s going on around us as if he isn’t aware of the totality of it all. Then we start seeking...no demanding God to give us answers and to fix things immediately. Yet, it's the first time we've talked to him in days, weeks, months, maybe even years. 

God desires for his children to come to him with their issues, no doubt. But even if he speaks, how will you hear him clearly amongst all the commotion of your emotions?
