“Come as you are” a cliché phrase that has been used to discuss attire in the church *blankstare*
My, my it’s so much deeper. Although there is no scripture in the bible that quotes this verbatim there are many that basically plead for us to come to Jesus just the way we are. For instance Matthew 11:28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Jesus provides us a place, where we can lay down every trouble, everything that is causing us distress. That scripture does not say, ‘come to me all that are strong because I don’t deal with the weak that’s too much work for me’. Nah, he pleads for those who are tired, beat up, feel like they can’t go on, those entangled in bondage of any sort.
Then you have 1 Corinthians 1:26 that says:

“For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.”
Everyone that comes to Christ is not already filled with wisdom. I can say this from experience (myself and those that I run into) and because in James 1:5 it tells us “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him”.
Not all of us are strong enough to handle every day life, resisting temptations/sins or dealing with the woes of the world. That is why he tells us to come to him in Matthew 11:28. It’s also why he reminds us that his “grace is sufficient for you, my strength is made perfect in weakness” in 2 Corinthians 12:9.
Not all of us are noble…or distinguished, impressive in appearance to those around us, world renowned, or famous, or even popular amongst peers when we are called to come to him…Should I back this up? Ok…
1 Corinthians 1:27-28 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;28 and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are…
Do you know what this means? Let me use a portion from the message version “Isn’t it obvious that God deliberately chose men and women that culture overlooks and exploits and abuses, chose these “nobodies” to expose the hollow pretensions of the “somebodies”?” My God he needs us…the ones that don’t claim to be perfect, who mess up daily, who are weak in flesh…
If anyone has told you, you can’t have a relationship with Christ because you are still wrapped up in sin:
- You like to smoke and drink everyday
- You enjoy sleeping with people that aren’t your husband or wife
- It’s fun to hurt others or tease others because everyone else is
- Lying keeps you safe in a world full of judgment so it has become the norm for you
- You love your lifestyle even when deep down it feels wrong
The list goes on and on…Or if they even go as low saying you are not worthy of Christ because of your clothing, your lack of connections, your appearance, occupation, past mistakes, or even past unbelief—They’re dumb. I guess the bible would say foolish, so I’ll say they’re foolish! (Guess what Jesus loves them too and can use em too)
Come to Jesus ANY of you at ANY point in your life. He wants you broken so that he can build you up. There is absolutely no way to begin to strive for perfection without him. That is why he came, bled, died, and rose again. For you!
If you’ve visited a church that held your ‘you’ higher than God’s saving power that was the wrong one…Try again!!! In the meantime, he exists everywhere. So after reading this just ask…Lord can you save someone like me, someone who may not want to change right now but knows they need you. Lord can you save someone and forgive someone who has done the horrible things I have?
I’ll answer for him—YES!!! YES HE CAN! YES HE WILL! He’s done it before and he’ll do it again! The bible shows it:
Paul: He set out to destroy Christianity by persecuting Christians. Witnessed and approved of Stephens stoning. Yet he wrote several letters to the church that are apart of the New Testament. He preached the gospel and saved souls!
David: He slept with a married woman then tried to cover it up by getting her husband to go home and sleep with her so no one would find out he’s baby daddy. When that didn’t work he had her husband killed on the front lines…#Messy. But he still used David. He was the greatest King of Israel, a man described by God as a man after his own heart and wrote many Psalms that we read and sing today!
Not only can he save you he can use you to do bigger and better things than you could imagine or that this world can imagine. That’s a guarantee. You see God, he can take you and flip you and use you for greatness! Everything is a PROCESS. You don’t have to come perfect and be a perfect saint over night (by the way there are no perfect saints). You just have to be willing to open your heart up to him…That’s all. Seeking Salvation is the first step to a secure life…
Seek Him…you’ll find him!
Want to be saved…Check out Romans 10:9-10 That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Pray and ask for him to lead you to a group of believers that will be a good fit for you. Where you can learn about him and experience his true love. #BibleBased
Blessings to you and my prayers are with you!
