Hey, it’s Thanksgiving week! Why not talk about turkeys? So a couple weeks ago I went to see the cartoon movie Free Birds. You know the one about the Turkeys who go back in time so they no longer have to be the main course? Please don’t judge me, I had to make some free time to take myself out. I just needed some time to chill with me where work couldn’t find me. Stress was looming overhead and I couldn’t allow it to settle down in my spirit. If I had to be honest, this was not the best movie I’ve ever seen in my life BUT there were some good little points in there for the kiddos! And for you too, that’s why I’m writing on it this week. Today’s post doesn’t really have anything to do with the movie, but I promise Monday-Friday will lol. Before I get to listing off the daily devotions of the week I just wanted to encourage you to do something important this week! Take time to free yourself from the demands of the world and take some time for you. If you never have free time for yourself, you are doing something wrong and it is necessary that you change that. Even if you just start with 15mins a week, take time where there are no check lists, no social networks, no interruptions. Here’s a little TURKEY acrostic that may help you! T: Take time to just sit and be. Try your best to disconnect from social media and respond to the real world with the same intent you do Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. If you don’t like to be alone or sit with your thoughts ask yourself why? What are you running from? How do you really feel about yourself? Why is the thought of this so difficult? U: Understand that just sitting and being still is not an easy task. It takes practice and for a lot of you it may feel so unproductive but it will pay off in increased sanity later. R: Relax, reflect, and relate to God during this time. As you are sitting there your mind will more than likely wander, what is coming up for you? Stressful thoughts? Depressive thoughts? Lustful ones? Whatever comes up you are allowed to hand them over to God and ask for freedom from everything that is not like him so that you may walk lighter and more free after coming off your free time. Then work on focusing on thoughts of relaxation and reflection. There is so much to be grateful for but because we don’t take the time to reflect on them we stay in a constant state of stress. Reflect on the great and I guarantee you, you’ll be able to relax just a little bit more. K: Kick it up a notch. Okay so if you have perfected giving yourself 15 mins a week why don’t you try to give yourself 15mins every other day. For a lot of people, you do this anyways, but for those grinding it out to support self, family, or make your dreams come true I already know how hard it is. But you still HAVE TO TAKE TIME FOR YOU! E: Everybody ain’t gonna like it or understand. Who cares?! If you can’t make sure that you are in a good space how can you be any good to anyone else? We all know the instructions once we get on a plane. In the event of an emergency place your oxygen mask on FIRST then help others. Sometimes, you have to be first! Y: You can violate this necessary time if you want to but if you wind up feeling burnt out and snapping at everything and everybody you’re gonna wish you tried it :-p This week’s daily devotions are as follows: Monday: Time Machines? That’d be dope! Tuesday: “We turned what we thought our prison into our home” Wednesday: Don’t make prison your home Thursday: Future and destiny lies with the lil ones Friday: The lone wolf aka the great turkey Saturday: You must never give up ^^^ All those have everything to do with the movie! Holla at me in the daily devotions this week lol |
